Interactively speaking

November 25th, 2006

Thought I’d upload some images of the interactive ATCs I made for last month’s Challenge, they had to feature bottle caps. Being a person who is happy splashing about with paint, I decided to use some pre-made papers, and try to work with them using inks and stamps, the results were quite interesting (to me, anyway). What concerns me is that I am seeming to be a ‘jack of all trades, but master of none’, and I’m not sure how I feel about that. I think I would like to be really good at woking in one medium rather than being able to get by in several. Aaaanyway, I finished the ATCs ages ago and promptly forgot about them, so here goes:

I’m getting really disheartened by the group. There are over fifty members, yet it is the same (small) handful who reply to posts and sign-up whenever a swap is announced.
I have, in the past, offered the explanation that our members often fall into two categories, the tentative, and the adventurous, and that often in a bid to host swaps that fall in the middle ground, we have swaps that are too adventurous for our timid members yet too ‘tame’ for our adventurous members. However, I’m becoming a tad frustrated here, because folk don’t want to take part in the swaps we announce, they don’t want to host swaps themselves, and they don’t want to tell me what they do want!
I don’t mind hosting swaps, I don’t relish chasing people up, but I’ll do it. Also, I really don’t mind being in swaps where the members are at different ‘levels’ or stages in their art-journeys, but I’m getting tired of constantly begging people to participate. I think it’s a bit of a sad state when I would rather join swaps on other groups than ‘pull-teeth’ on this one. I may be the ‘group Mom’ but folk need to understand that it is THEIR group and can only be as exciting or as much fun, as THEY make it.

Yes, I realise some members of the group might read this post, but they are probably not the ones I am referring to.
Right, I’m glad I got that off my chest, it’s prolly healthier than laying awake at night grinding my teeth amd worrying about it!
