April 26th, 2006I got this fabulous book yesterday and it is brilliant! Written in plain English, this comprehensive guide is almost 300 pages of information, a great resource or reference book. It begins by explaining common terminology, and goes onto discuss Surfaces, Brushes, Pens & Pencils, Charcoal, Inks, Pastels, Watercolours, Gouache, Tempera, Acrylcs, and Oils, finishing up with How to care for your work. Each chapter lays out what the materials is, how it is used and potential pitfalls. I can see this book being well worn before too long, there is so much I don’t know about art and art materials but I think this books will play an important part on my journey.
