Sleepless in Camden

February 21st, 2006

What is it with sleep? This last week or so I’ve been waking up really early (like 3 or 4 am) and then sleeping restlessly until it’s been time to get up. Yesterday I went to bed at midnight (late for me, these days) amd slept all the way through until almost 8am. Today, I felt tired and restless so went to bed shortly after 10pm, developed a headache, didn’t sleep until goodness-knows-when and woke up again at 3am! I tried and tried to get back to sleep but after tossing and turning until 5am I got up and decided to reply to the many emails I’ve been avoiding for the last few days *yawn*

I’ve only been doing this semi-healthy eating routine for a few days, and Miles said to me on Saturday that I needed to introduce the various supplements into my diet gradually, of course in my enthusiasm to reverse the rot, I didn’t listen. I’m almost up to the full recommended dose of everything I’m taking. Altough initially yesterday I felt pretty good, lots of vitality and energy, that didn’t seem to last too long. By the time Miles came home at 5.30 pm I was starving hungry, and even some spelt brad with the lemon and cilantro humous (yummy!) didn’t stave off the pangs until dinner. I made an exceedingly unsatisfying meal with mackeral and rice, which I couldn’t finish - too enthusiastic with the ginger, methinks.

I was reading the bit in Vegetarian Cooking Without, about blood sugar, and wonder if I just haven’t eaten enough food today (or yesterday, as it is now). I seem to be showing all the symptoms but I have had some fruit for breakfast, a HUGE salad for lunch, slice of bread and then some rice and mackeral for dinner.

I also wonder if my general restlessness, tiredness, grouchiness and headache might be due to ‘too much too soon’ detoxing? I read something about how if you make huge changes to your diet all at once and start taking lots of supplements altogether at full strength, and your body started releasing a sudden gush of toxins, it could have similar effects too.
Meaniwhile, I’m still awake…..
