Finally got round to weighing myself yesterday and was slightly disappointed to see I had only lost just over 1.5 lb in weight
it felt like a lot of work for a small loss. I know I haven’t actually been doing any exercises yet, so I guess it was diet alone. BUT it wasn’t until I was just about to drop off to sleep last night that I suddenly woke up with the realisation that I hadn’t been weighed in lbs but in kgs! SO I had actually lost over 1.5 kg, which is prolly about 3lbs!! Yayyy!

that Miles bought me a pair of comfort grip dumbells in JL, with a velcro strap that goes over my hand in case I lose my grip of them, so I don’t drop them???

You’re not going to believe what a super duper shopping weekend I’vehad. Yesterday we went to JL to buy saucepans, and came home with a large stockpot, a saute pan, skillet and egg poacher. I won’t tell you how much we spent ‘cos you might imagine we’re loaded but let’s just say we finished off the last of the JL vouchers we got for the wedding. We’ve been talking about getting new cookware since we got married but could never really get round to doing anything about it. Then the Tefal saute pan somehow lost it’s non-stickness (the Red Spot range are crap BTW in case you were thinking of purchasing something) and we noticed how shoddy the pan set we had was looking, (considering I’ve had the set for over ten years, it had seen service) so we decided to take the plunge and make an investment in some GOOD cookware. This stuff we bought not only looks good but works a dream, I’m lovin’ it. It’s the Meyer, Analon range - it didn’t hurt of course that it has the same surname as us
LOL!
We then went to our local mediterannean-looking shop, called Phoenicia today. It’s been open a fair while and we’ve never gone inside but on our way to the P.O. (to post the bottles!) and JL yesterday we popped in and had a spot of lunch. Lovely greek salads, humous, falafel, tabouleh and lots more, and a good price. Anyway, having nosied about a bit yesterday we decided to go back today and do a bit of shopping, couldn’t believe how well stocked they are for organic foods, unusual fruits, nuts, whole foods, grains and everything else you can imagine! Anyway, spent around an hour and a half and £30 in there but felt like we’d got a bargain. I’m sure most of the stuff they sell is lots cheaper than Fresh & Wild, with the bonus tat even if it is more expensive, at least I can get around! Yes, you read right, they have made it completely level access, got a ramp in the front and got rid of the step from the shop to the cafe. Can’t ask more than that, can you? F&W has a level access entrance but then has several steps to get to half the shop! Staff are very helpful but that doesn’t compensate for not being able to see what is for sale, doesn it? Talking of staff, the staff in Phoenicia are FAB! Really nice and attentive and polite and… and… well, I haven’t got time to go on and list all their qualities, but you get my drift, right?

What is it with sleep? This last week or so I’ve been waking up really early (like 3 or 4 am) and then sleeping restlessly until it’s been time to get up. Yesterday I went to bed at midnight (late for me, these days) amd slept all the way through until almost 8am. Today, I felt tired and restless so went to bed shortly after 10pm, developed a headache, didn’t sleep until goodness-knows-when and woke up again at 3am! I tried and tried to get back to sleep but after tossing and turning until 5am I got up and decided to reply to the many emails I’ve been avoiding for the last few days *yawn*
I’ve only been doing this semi-healthy eating routine for a few days, and Miles said to me on Saturday that I needed to introduce the various supplements into my diet gradually, of course in my enthusiasm to reverse the rot, I didn’t listen. I’m almost up to the full recommended dose of everything I’m taking. Altough initially yesterday I felt pretty good, lots of vitality and energy, that didn’t seem to last too long. By the time Miles came home at 5.30 pm I was starving hungry, and even some spelt brad with the lemon and cilantro humous (yummy!) didn’t stave off the pangs until dinner. I made an exceedingly unsatisfying meal with mackeral and rice, which I couldn’t finish - too enthusiastic with the ginger, methinks.
I was reading the bit in Vegetarian Cooking Without, about blood sugar, and wonder if I just haven’t eaten enough food today (or yesterday, as it is now). I seem to be showing all the symptoms but I have had some fruit for breakfast, a HUGE salad for lunch, slice of bread and then some rice and mackeral for dinner.
I also wonder if my general restlessness, tiredness, grouchiness and headache might be due to ‘too much too soon’ detoxing? I read something about how if you make huge changes to your diet all at once and start taking lots of supplements altogether at full strength, and your body started releasing a sudden gush of toxins, it could have similar effects too.
Meaniwhile, I’m still awake…..

Some of you wll know that I Supervise students on a degree course, part of the course requirements is that they attend 12 sessions of Supervision a year. That’s not a huge number, is it? Assuming allocations of Supervisors happens sometime in October, if sessions happen every 2 weeks, 12 fit nicely every fortnight, giving some room for illness, holidays, unexpected cancellations, etc.
My 1st year student this year didn’t even contact me until mid January (!!) and that was after several concerned ‘phone calls to the college and after they had written to her 3 times. When I first spoke to her on the telephone she apologised for contacting me so late, and that a family friend had died the previous week. Begs the question, “What about the 3 months before that??”, doesn’t it? Anyway, we booked Supervision for about ten days later, only to have it cancelled, with a less than 3 hours notice, with the student telling me she had ‘double-booked’.
We booked a second session for two weeks later, but for this one, she just didn’t show up! Five days after the missed session I got a telephone call apologising and telling me that she’d had the ‘flu and was only just getting over the chest infection. In my mind I’m thinking “a ‘phone call only takes a minute, ‘flu or no ‘flu. Are you telling me you haven’t used the ‘phone for the last five days??” and all sorts of other things I’d rather not put in writing IYKWIM?
On both occasions, when she has missed Supervision, I’ve advised her that I will need to count the missed sessions as part of the twelve contracted sessions, she’s been fine, even jolly about it.
So, anyway, we we have booked another Supervision session for next week……
What worries me is that because I haven’t even met her yet, I have been unable to write my Interim assessment of her learning this year. This is usually quite an important assessment, and the only other student I have Supervised, that I have been unable to write an Interim assessment for, has failed the course. I get the feeling the student has no idea of the importance the college places on Supervision. Can you imagine her face when she hears that she has failed the course because of my Interim Assessment (or lack, thereof) and because she hasn’t completed her twelve Supervision sessions?

Life, Art & Chocolate? No more Chocolate for me thanks. Having had numerous health problems this last eighteen months or so, most of them to do with digestion, I decided to go and see a nuitritionist. I should’ve gone ages ago but kept putting it off. To cut a long story short, Angie, the nutritionist, was great and I’ve been told I have IBS, leakey gut and candida. These not only have an impact on my various digestive ailments, but on M.S. too. Angie has recommended that I follow a strict food regime which means cutting out a lot of the foods I really like, in exchange for seeing loads of health benefits. Unfortunately chocolate and foods containing sugar are at the top of the list of things I can’t be having, as is soy sauce, mushrooms, wheat, yeast and half of the contents of my kitchen cupboards. I’m thinking of changing the by-line of the blog to ‘Life, Art & Walnuts’, what do you think? Maybe I’ll change the Chocolate category into one about diet and healthy lifestyle…. hmmmmm…..
I ordered the numerous supplements yesterday and they arrived today, this isn’t going to be cheap but what price for health? I’m quite looking forward to discovering new foods, new tastes and how to cook - finally!

You wouldn’t BELIEVE the drama yesterday afternoon! I have a 16oz
bottle of Diamond Glaze, and have only used a fairly small amount of
it. I somehow managed to knock the bottle (with it’s cap on) off the
table and onto the floor - no biggie, right? WRONG! The cap broke off
the bottle and before my horrified eyes the Diamond Glaze started
glugging all over the floor! I did snap out of it long enough to pick
the bottle up and try to wipe up the mess from the floor before it
started drying, but I’m sure you can imagine it wasn’t particularly
easy from my chair! Needless to say, I no-longer have 16oz of DG but I did manage to rescue a small jar full.
WHY ME??
Last time it was a new jar of Golden’s black gesso, and that was just
before I went to bed and Miles spent an hour trying to clean up after
me - of course I managed to wheel my way though the gesso and all over
the room while trying to be helpful and get out of the way - at least
I didn’t do that with the DG! *sigh*
